It really is a good era to start something new, with the internet being so prevalent. It may depend on the things that we try, but they accept almost all regardless of age, race, gender or social background.
They always look more than ever glad to welcome us. Even if you’ve never tried oil painting in your entire life, there’s enough information out there to begin from scratch. Even the websites where artists post their work-in-progress videos are abundant.
First, I began by reproduction of Jean-François Millet’s “The Gleaners” (Millet is the representative painter of Barbizon school that strongly influenced van Gogh’s work).
The work below is the beginning of my painting, but I began on a different project before its completion.
Even though I believed that the basis of painting a picture is to accurately depict whatever you saw onto the canvas, no matter what it can never be the same. Although I knew it was obvious, I still wished to create my own painting.
インターネットが発達している現在、新しく何かを始めるにはいい時代になったとつくづく思う。
物によるのかもしれないが、年齢等も問われない。いつも歓迎してくれる（ように見える）。油絵が生まれて初めての経験でもいろんな情報がネットに溢れている。多くのアーティストが自分の作品を描いてその過程をビデオに録画し、手ほどきをしてくれるサイトも豊富にある。
最初に描き始めたのがジャン＝フランソワ・ミレーの代表作となる「落穂拾い」の模写だった。ミレーはゴッホに多大な影響を及ぼしたバルビゾン派の代表的画家だ。上の写真がその描き始めの絵で、完成する前に別の絵を描き出した。

実際に見たものを正確に写し取ってキャンバスにその通り表現することが「基本」だと思っていたが、描いてみると本物の絵とは全く違う絵になる。当たり前のことなのだろうが、それでも自分の絵を描きたいと思っていた。
